A MUDDLED PUDDLE OF THREE A.M. THOUGHTS.

Is it possible for a person to think clearly at 3  A.M.? Read on and judge for yourself.

I have recently been in social contact with friends of long standing. You must keep in mind these are persons that I respect very much and I can depend on to provide me the social and intellectual inputs I need to keep myself mentally centered  –  most of the time. We have life stories which mark us distinctly as unique individuals. However, paradoxically, these life stories also mark us with a collective sameness. (Damn! This chain-of-thought has brought to my consciousness the joy and sadness enjoined in the recollections of my friends whose lives have ended. Enough! Back to my center.) Except for politics. In this realm, we are like children eating jam – all over the place! Our political jam is spread from right to left more or less uniformly and, maybe, this is the reason we are struck in our political  places; too much jam has us firmly fixed. It is amazing! Even the  flood of cleansing solvents that follows the election of a  President fails to loosen and release us from the sticky mess. The post-election political rhetoric is changed from the prior only to the extent required by the extinction of outcome uncertainty brought by the election of our President. In spite of what I have said about the unchanged political rhetoric, change is coming and soon. Big change! It will be forced upon us by the growing  notice being given to the present measurement of the beginning phase of the climate disaster we humans (as the principal Earthly cognitive animal ) are now experiencing. What are we now experiencing? Here is a partial list:

The summer-melt of Arctic sea ice is the greatest since record keeping began.

The Greenland icecap is melting rapidly compared to historical records.

The Arctic tundra is thawing.

Methane gas is being released  from Arctic lakes due to lake water warming.

Carbon dioxide gas is increasing as a proportion of atmosphere gases.

The mean sea level is rising.

The mean water temperatures of the Oceans is rising.

The release of Methane gas from sea-floor Methane Hydrates is certain as Ocean temperatures rise.

The deleterious effects of the Carbon Dioxide acidification of Ocean waters upon sea-life is being observed and measured.

The annual mean temperature of our Planet is rising.

Severe weather is becoming more severe.

Thus, our future as Earthlings includes;

Massive inundation of all coastal areas.

Large changes in climates as the Ocean waters decrease in salinity.

The Equatorial zone will be inhabitable to Humans.

The temperate zones will move toward the poles.

There will be less living space for the increasing number of Humans.

Human activities dependent on large amounts of inexpensive energy will cease.

Social tensions will rise when the strong amongst up perceive the weak amongst us as being a threat to their survival.

Our political rhetoric will change and  sooner than we think.
